I had originally wanted to talk about this in a video but I ran out of time to film the video in a way I felt I would be able to do the subject justice. It is slightly off topic but I hope you don't mind. Today I wanted to talk to you about why you should vote.
For those of you who may not know, there will be a general election in the UK next month. Voting turn out is slightly on the low side especially among young people. Personally, I am very passionate about voting. At the risk of sounding a bit preachy I thought I would share my top five reasons why you should vote on the 7th May.
It affects you
A lot of people feel like politics does not affect them but the truth this politics is a lot more to home than most people realise. From collecting your bins to the education you receive politics has an impact. So with this in mind why would you not want a say in the decisions made on these issues?
Your Future
What happens in the present will affect your future. Whichever political party comes in to pwer at this election will leave their mark on the country. This in turn will have an knock on effect for the next party that comes in to power.
You cannot complain if you don't vote!
Let's admit it, the majority of us to love to complain a little bit. The problem is, complaining is useless without managing to find a solution. Voting helps find the solutions to things such as Education which is a topic I am personally passionate about.
Because you can
People all across the world die and fight for the right to vote. We are in a very fortunate position where it only takes a couple of minutes (10mins at most) to vote. You do not even have to go to a polling station if you do not want too. You can opt for a postal vote if you would prefer to do that. Taking that short amount of time out of your day to have a say in how your country is run is a small price to pay.
On a personal note, voting is fun. It makes me feel grown up and feel I have made a difference. I know this is slightly off topic but I hope you found this useful and enjoyed reading this.
If you want to vote, do not forget to register before the 20th April.
